U.S. immigration rules require you to show proof that you can pay for one academic year of tuition and living expenses before the university can issue you an I-20. This proof of funds shows that you have enough financial support to study in the U.S. The amount you or your sponsor must show is listed at the bottom of your HU financial aid award letter. If your financial information does not equal or exceed this amount, an I-20 cannot be issued to you.

For a student to name a sponsor as the source of their financial support, the U.S. government requires the sponsor to write a letter that includes the student’s information and the sponsor's financial information.
